Bismuth rebuilt as a real 3D object. Drag its face to turn it round to the equalizer on the back, or roll it up to its orb.
Every one is the real player, running here with a made-up song and no sound. Press things.
Lives over everything.
It sits above whatever you're doing, and clicks on its see-through edges go to the window behind. Roll it up into a strip, or drag it into the menu bar and it becomes a tiny ▶ ⏭ remote.
Your music, dragged in.
Drag playlists, albums and songs from Spotify onto Mercury's shelf, then click to play. No passwords and no keys.
It hears the music.
Every skin has a visualizer that listens to Spotify, and only Spotify. There's a 10-band equalizer too, with pitch, reverb and stereo width.
Change its whole body.
Chrome, ceramic, gold, glass, jelly, a desert, an alien orchid. Switch any time with right-click › Skins, and drag the corner grip to make it up to twice the size.

Filmed in one take on a Mac, with the real player.
The shelf
Fill it straight from Spotify.
- Open the library: the ⏏ button on the player, or press L.
- Drag a playlist, album, song or artist from the Spotify app onto the shelf.
- Click it to play. Hover and press × to take it off.
Or in Spotify click ··· › Share › Copy link, then Paste link on the shelf. + Now playing keeps the song that's on. Drop a link anywhere else on the player and it plays straight away.
Install
Three steps, about a minute.
-
Step 1Download
Unzip it and move it in.
Open Mercury.zip from your Downloads. Drag Mercury.app into your Applications folder.
-
Step 2Open Anyway
Let it open, once.
Mercury isn't from the App Store, so the first time you open it macOS stops it. Close the message, open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway. Open Mercury again and confirm.
-
Step 3Two questions
Say yes twice.
The first lets Mercury play, pause and skip. The second lets the visualizer and EQ hear Spotify, and only Spotify. Nothing is recorded or saved.

Good to know
- Every playlist
- Want all your playlists and liked songs in the drawer without dragging? Click Connect a Spotify key under the shelf. It takes about two minutes and needs Spotify Premium. It's optional.
- Liked Songs
- Spotify only plays Liked Songs from its own app, so it can't go on the shelf. Drag a playlist instead.
- Privacy
- Mercury has no account, ads or tracking. It talks to the Spotify app, and to Spotify's public link previews for the names and covers on your shelf.
- Removing it
- Right-click › Quit Mercury, then drag Mercury from Applications to the Bin.
Mercury is a personal, vibe-coded project and isn't made or endorsed by Spotify.
